The Wall Street Journal’s Washington bureau is seeking a staff reporter to join its national security group and become part of the country’s premier team, covering intelligence, defense and foreign policy.
Specifically, we need a reporter to track U.S. intelligence agencies and the kinds of issues they deal with – terror groups, global threats, domestic and international surveillance. This reporter should be able to find out what agencies like the CIA and NSA are doing operationally, as well as how they assess current situations and news events, such as the backgrounds of terror groups and the inclinations of foreign leaders.
He or she should be able to develop the sources to piece together the evolution of key decisions and to track U.S. policy formulation and execution. And, of course, the best candidates will be able to deftly convert government and bureaucratic jargon into enticing prose and to explain to readers the forces of politics (this being Washington).
