The Wall Street Journal is seeking an editor/producer to join its growing mobile ranks to publish and curate news and help guide development for WSJ mobile and tablet platforms, including the iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, the Apple Watch and other emerging devices.
The ideal candidate has experience as a journalist, strong writing and editing skills, solid news judgment and substantial tech savvy.
Candidates should be able to meet tight deadlines and independently and creatively troubleshoot editorial and publishing challenges in a fast-paced environment where both the tasks and the tech change rapidly. A high comfort level with technology and a natural affinity for new digital tools and systems are a must.
The position involves both daily hands-on editorial work publishing to mobile and tablet devices and the planning, oversight and testing of new mobile news technology. Responsibilities may also include: working with multiple editorial and technology teams, managing mobile news projects, mobile news layout and design, editing headlines and copy and sending push alerts in breaking news situations.
Candidates should have at least five years of post-college journalism experience, including familiarity with online or mobile publishing. A passionate interest in mobile technology and trends, attention to detail, copy editing skills and reporting or photojournalism experience are desired.
Candidates should be adept with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Experience with graphics design and programming, Photoshop, news content algorithms or the Methode content publishing system is a plus. The position reports to the senior mobile editor and the executive mobile editor.
