WSJ seeks legal issues reporter in New York

The Wall Street Journal’s law bureau is seeking an aggressive and independent journalist to cover legal issues across the U.S.

The person will be expected to break news and spearhead coverage of important cases, especially those arising in the New York area, but also those commanding attention in other jurisdictions around the country. The person also will need to produce thoughtful enterprise work on major issues like terrorism, cybercrime and nationwide trends in law enforcement.

The beat has been central to the Journal’s coverage of everything from the prosecution of Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law and hacking groups such as Anonymous to investigations into the virtual currency bitcoin and online marketplaces like Silk Road. It is a regular source of stories for the front page and other section fronts.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to develop deep sources, the versatility to quickly master an array of subjects, and the temperament to work closely with other reporters and bureaus across the organization.

He/she will be a self-starter with a curious, inquisitive mind and at least three years of reporting experience in daily journalism.
