The bureau has a small team of reporters filing for all platforms, often at anti-social hours, since that’s when North Korea likes to test missiles. The South Korean economy, a bellwether of international trade, is also an important part of the news file.
The role presents a unique challenge since WSJ staff are not routinely able to report from North Korea. The bureau chief needs to have strong news judgement to discern significant developments from the North and an entrepreneurial spirit to set our coverage apart from the competition.
