WSJ seeks executive editor for graphics, multimedia

We’re looking for an energetic, highly creative journalist-cum-engineer who will stop at nothing to push the boundaries of digital story telling.

Responsibilities:

  • Launch high-profile digital initiatives and startups as well as work with numerous successful existing titles
  • Drive ideation and build – from teams to stories and from tools to code
  • Analyze and interpret news so as to create compelling graphic sthat visually support and supplement editorial stories
  • Collaborate across teams including reporters and editors to gain further insight into stories

Skills:

  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and to contribute creative ideas
  • Experience in a deadline-driven environment while bringing a collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to leverage data sets for storytelling
  • Flexibility to assume tasks outside of the core responsibilities
  • Demonstrated management and leadership experience
  • Coding skills in front-end development such as HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Familiarity with producing wireframes and an understanding of UX/UI design
  • Data visualization experience

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
