WSJ seeks East Coast bureau chief

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced journalist to join its U.S. news leadership team as East Coast Bureau Chief. The editor will run a team of reporters covering Maine to Florida over to Louisiana.

The subject terrain includes the booming South and the stretched Northeast. It involves the stresses of urban culture from commuting to housing, criminal justice, politics, the economy, and social movements from the students of #neveragain to white nationalism. For half the year, there are hurricanes threatening the coastline. Once that passes, the bomb cyclones begin. It is an exciting time to be covering the U.S. and this job is at the heart of shaping our coverage.

The ideal candidate will identify high-impact stories and issues for us to cover. The editor needs to love news and big, fast-breaking stories. This is a great opportunity for someone eager to be part of the biggest stories of the day, while striving for deeply reported narratives, investigations and enterprise journalism.

The editor needs to be a great manager and collaborator, especially as much of the team is not based in New York.

To apply, send clips, a resume and a cover letter to Emily Nelson at emily.nelson@wsj.com.
