You will help plan, edit and deliver ambitious international coverage to our growing audience. You’ll work closely with the coverage chief and deputies in London and Hong Kong, as well as with bureau chiefs around the world, to drive daily news and enterprise reporting.
We’re looking for an innovative and creative thinker, leader and manager. You must have sharp editing skills, excellent news judgment and a flair for storytelling.
You will report to World Coverage Chief Gordon Fairclough.
You will:
Develop and regularly re-evaluate the world team’s content strategy across all WSJ platforms and formats.
Implement daily, mid- and long-term coverage plans, working with the World Coverage Chief, Programming Editor and platform editors.
Help manage the daily work of teams of bureau chiefs, global deputies and reporters.
Manage a rigorous story-pitch and story prioritization process
Ensure the timely and coordinated publication of all coverage area story packages.
Track key audience indicators. Provide regular and actionable feedback to staff to improve overall journalistic quality and workflow efficiency.
You Have:
Extensive experience as a journalist
Deep understanding of the values of The Wall Street Journal, and the audience and membership structure and how to use insight, research and analytics to continually refine this understanding.
The ability to select and present the best, most relevant journalism in various digital formats. Also know what doesn’t work and make qualified calls
Deep understanding of platform-specific storytelling characteristics.
The ability to delegate, brief and give constructive feedback.
Sound organizational abilities: setting agendas, managing projects, maintaining a slate of forward planning that is crucial for implementing the coverage area’s strategy.
