WSJ seeks deputy editor for Mansion

The Wall Street Journal seeks a Deputy Editor to work closely with the Editor of Mansion, the Journal section about the world’s most ambitious homes. This editor will play a crucial role in the day-to-day editorial operations, from story generation and assigning to editing and helping with editorial workflow.

This editor employs solid news judgment and curates section pages to leverage the depth and breadth of our journalism. The successful candidate will demonstrate sharp writing and strong editing skills.

Journalistic Requirements:

  • Flair and passion for storytelling.
  • Superb writing and editing skills.
  • Experience editing complex subject matter.
  • Ability to identify potential legal issues.
  • Adept at coming up with feature story ideas.
  • Ability to enhance storytelling through packaging (i.e. can suggest and create pertinent sidebars, infographics)
  • Ability to give clear direction and feedback to others.
  • Help to create innovative approaches to covering real estate trends/issues/themes.
  • Take part in planning of special sections, conceiving, planning and executing packaging and special features to complement those sections.
  • Ability to write display, bringing a smart, engaging voice to heds and deks
  • Ensure the voice, tone and standards of The Wall Street Journal are consistently accurate and fair, objective and of high quality.

Digital Media Skills:

  • Ease with editing different types of media; e.g., text, graphics, share text and captions.
  • Uses audience data to inform curation decisions, making adjustments as needed.
  • Command of newsroom publishing tools.
  • Ability and willingness to assist in troubleshooting digital publishing issues.

Personal Attributes:

  • Detail-oriented.
  • Works well independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Thrives in an atmosphere of constant change and embraces experimentation.
  • Comfortable balancing multiple tasks and responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborates with other groups and employs excellent communication skills.
  • General awareness of how our newsroom works and others’ roles and responsibilities.
