WSJ seeks deputy bureau chief in Chicago

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a deputy bureau chief in Chicago to help guide a team responsible for a broad swath of coverage including agriculture and food companies, restaurants and groceries, aviation, aerospace and manufacturing.

We are looking for an accomplished journalist to help manage and guide high-achieving reporters with a wide range of experience and interests. You will help handle the full range of the bureau’s output––from day to day company coverage to scoops, visuals and deeper enterprise work across all platforms. We are looking for a newshound with sharp judgment who can make tough calls and produce clean copy on tight deadlines. You should also have an enterprising mindset, looking for opportunities to do revelatory work with high impact. You will coordinate closely with reporters and other editors across the paper, and collaborate with visuals, audio, video and strategy colleagues to support the strongest outcomes for stories.

We’re looking for journalists with several years of experience and a proven track record as a reporter or editor, ideally including business or financial beats.

You will be based in Chicago and report to Chicago bureau chief Joanna Chung.
