The Wall Street Journal is looking for a New York-based community editor to oversee audience conversation experience across platforms and to foster meaningful dialogue among readers and journalists.
You will work hand-in-hand with WSJ news, strategy and engineering colleagues. You will be a partner to WSJ’s live journalism team.
You will report to the new audiences and community deputy editor, and you will use industry trends, technology developments and data/analytics to help create digital community strategy.
You will:
- Exercise strong judgment in packaging and presenting conversation alongside news.
- Help connect the content with the audience, the audience with each other and the audience with the Journal’s journalists.
- Demonstrate a command of editing and conversational writing to engage readers.
- Understand the different opportunities for commenting around breaking news as well as enterprise.
- Be comfortable with technical concepts and eager to be helpful in technical planning around product features related to audience conversation.
- Lead with empathy, both for the audience and your team members. You will help your direct reports produce their very best work and support their career development.
You have:
- At least 3+ years of experience with news and audience development or audience commenting work.
- An attention to detail. Takes pride in and ownership of one’s work.
- A positive attitude. Can motivate team members and stay future-focused and positive when under deadline pressure.
- The ability to collaborate with other groups and employ excellent communication skills.
- The ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change and embrace experimentation.
- A level of comfort balancing multiple tasks and responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
