WSJ seeks central bank reporter in Germany

We’re seeking a reporter to lead our coverage of the European Central Bank, one of The Wall Street Journal’s highest profile beats, and now even more in the spotlight with the recent launch of WSJ Pro Central Banking.

The opening, based in Frankfurt, comes at a time when the ECB has moved into uncharted territory, administering an historic stimulus program and expanding its powers to take on a new banking oversight role. Run by an unwieldy board made up of 25 officials from the euro’s 19 member countries, it continues to grapple with Greece’s financial problems and wider questions about the health and stability of the euro zone.

We’re looking for someone with strong news judgment, writing ability, analytical talent and digital-media skills. The ideal candidate will have experience covering economics, banking and central banking, getting scoops and developing sources.

The reporter must be a self-starter who can build sources and break news as well as connect the dots for smart analysis, feature stories and profiles that play prominently online and in print. He or she must be able to work with other reporters in Europe and elsewhere when needed to build out broad themes. Ability to bring financial and economics stories to life with color and telling real examples is also key.

In addition to producing the kind of stories that make the WSJ a go-to for anyone following the ECB, the reporter will also work across all platforms, including video, to provide lively, engaging and authoritative coverage of one of Europe’s most important institutions.
