The editor must have experience managing reporters, driving and editing spot news, as well as conceptualizing and developing major features and enterprise stories. Specific coverage areas would include trade, including the office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Commerce Department, and — where it impacts, trade tariffs and treaties — Congress and the White House.
The trade beat would also have the editor coordinating with the Journal’s global network of bureaus to cover foreign governments as well as the World Trade Organization and other international institutions as they touch on trade.
The editor must also have a deep familiarity with corporate news, especially where regulatory developments affect the corporate bottom line, in industries including technology, energy, pharmaceuticals and others.
The editor will also be asked to coordinate the coverage of major Washington industry associations and trade groups, as wells as corporate lobbying shops.
