WSJ seeks auto reporter in Detroit

The Wall Street Journal’s Detroit bureau is seeking a dogged reporter to cover the auto industry, which is one of our most important corporate beats.

The global car business touches areas central to our business coverage, from moonshot R&D projects to Rustbelt manufacturing operations, from long supply chains to mom-and-pop dealerships. The entry of Google, Tesla and a cadre of tech companies is accelerating the industry’s move to electric cars and vehicles that drive themselves — and prompting soul searching on what it means to be a car company today.

The successful candidate is willing to learn the complexities of the changing auto industry and is eager to deliver stories on the industry that take readers beneath the surface. This candidate must have a proven ability to break news. In an era of heightened regulatory scrutiny on auto makers and strong investor appetite in those looking to disrupt them, being first on the auto beat has never been more important.

This reporter is expected to work closely with colleagues around the world, and to deliver authoritative, engaging work for all Wall Street Journal platforms.

Applications should include a resume, cover letter, and up to five published clips.
