Every day, you will oversee the publishing of the Journal’s flagship enterprise story or stories. That means you’ll be responsible for encouraging this work across the newsroom, assessing ideas from bureaus and sometimes ordering up stories as part of running coverage to meet the moment. Part of this role includes fostering journalism in new formats, especially audio and graphics.
The position sits at the center of our journalistic output, and would require working closely with other senior editors to set priorities and ensure that our news coverage is dominant. You will work with a talented team of news editors to polish the reporting and set it up to reach the widest possible audience with the best possible headlines, social and alert language.
You have:
-Experience running coverage and preferably also reporters
-Sharp news judgment, in particular the ability to see around corners and figure out what comes next
-Experience editing major features and the thorny structural, legal and stylistic challenges they can present
-A combination of diplomacy, personal charm and toughness
You will:
-Nurture enterprise journalism across the newsroom
-Run the nuts-and-bolts of daily publishing
-Push the newsroom to explore new formats
While you may start remotely, this position is based in the Journal’s New York office. You will report to Chief Enterprise Editor Matthew Rose.
