WSJ seeks a reporter in Berlin

wall-street-journalwall-street-journalThe WSJ’s Berlin bureau is looking for a seasoned correspondent to lead political and economic coverage of Germany.

This high-profile position would suit an experienced reporter with a proven ability to deliver ambitious enterprise and fast, value-added news.

Based in one of Europe’s most exciting cities and covering the continent’s powerhouse at a critical political time, this assignment is an opportunity to tackle an array of big themes, from the populist challenge to mainstream politics to the fallout from the refugee crisis and the region’s economic recovery.

Candidates should be familiar with political processes in Europe and understand our readers’ needs and interests. They should set their own agenda and write across the full spectrum from news to analysis to frequent leders addressing political, economic or business issues of global relevance.

We are looking for a team player who would link up with other bureaus to work on cross-border stories.

Fluency in German is a prerequisite. Knowledge of German institutions and some experience of political reporting would be distinct advantages.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
