The Wall Street Journal is looking for an enterprising news hound to cover one of the fastest growing and most influential areas of the global capital markets, private equity.

Private equity touches nearly every corner of our lives from the software we use to the food we eat and even the music we listen to, but much of the industry operates outside of the public eye. If you are interested in uncovering stories about the firms, people and personalities that shape one the most interesting areas of the capital markets, come join our team.

You will write for private-equity investment professionals, entrepreneurs, consultants and other executives as part of WSJ Pro Private Equity, a premium product that includes a daily newsletter and provides stories and analysis about the industry.

The position will be based in New York.

You will:

  • Have a roster of industry contacts, and show eagerness to continue cultivating sources among senior-level leaders and executives at private-equity firms, pension funds and other related asset managers across the United States and other global business centers.
  • Produce high-impact scoops and interpret complex financial concepts.
  • Dominate coverage of news relevant to private equity, including scoops on deals, allocations and fundraising.
  • Approach your beat with an eye open to what’s working and what’s not working.
  • Produce a range of stories from breaking news and exclusives to features and original analysis that is compelling to the informed professional reader.
  • Travel to companies in key business markets to develop your original reporting.

You have:

  • At least five years of reporting experience.
  • The ability to explain complex and sophisticated technologies in a clear and lucid manner, connecting them to the broader business in a way that is compelling and useful for the professional reader.
  • A proven ability to write clearly and analytically for a professional audience.
  • A collaborative and team-oriented approach to your work.
  • A passion for being part of The Wall Street Journal’s fast-paced, global news organization, and meeting the highest standards of business journalism.

The Journal’s reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter and clips of breaking news stories and features.
