You must love the excitement and unpredictability of news, and share our sense of curiosity about the U.S. You should be invigorated by the demands of the current news cycle and the importance of delivering must-read stories and visuals to readers.
You will edit copy, guide reporters, and help plan big coverage events with the rest of the U.S. leadership team. You will also work with the platforms, visuals and SEO teams to launch stories effectively.
You will work closely with bureau chiefs and reporters to meet and maintain WSJ’s high standards through precise and concise editing, sharp and informative headlines and distinctive presentation, while taking on additional responsibilities to independently and quickly make decisions about breaking news and manage strategy on the top news of the day.
You must have exceptional news judgment and the ability to sharply edit and elevate stories of all types with speed and depth under deadline pressure. In addition to breaking news, you will work on lively, in-depth enterprise stories and graphics on a variety of critical subjects valued by our readers. A deep interest in all areas of news is desired.
You should be a versatile editor who has the temperament to handle multiple articles and responsibilities across platforms. You must closely collaborate with reporters and editors across the U.S.
Experience in digital journalism is preferred as well as an appreciation of modern and innovative storytelling techniques. The ability to work a flexible schedule as news dictates is a plus.
While you may start remotely, this position will be based in New York or another major city where the WSJ has a bureau. You will report to the U.S. News Coverage Chief.
