WSJ seeks a markets reporter

February 2, 2022

Posted by Chris Roush

The Wall Street Journal is looking for reporters to work on new and ambitious coverage at the heart of our newsroom. We’re building a digital markets offering that will bring news, analysis and ideas to readers throughout the day – at the speed and tempo of the ever-changing financial markets. We are looking for reporters with a variety of backgrounds, interests and skills to work on it. You must be enthusiastic about financial markets, but you can express that enthusiasm in many ways:

  • Are you great at building markets charts?
  • Know your way around ethereum smart contracts?
  • Deep into portfolio theory?
  • Fluent in Python or R for financial data?
  • Obsessed by the stock market?
  • A keen observer of reddit, Twitter and financial social media?

If you’re any of these things, we should talk.

We need hungry, omnivorous reporters able to spot news and action in markets and to engage with the current of ideas flowing through global finance and economics. You’ll need to be nimble and agile–able to tackle spiking natural gas prices, the complexity of emerging crypto, the inflation trade in rates markets and more.

You’ll be part of the Journal’s Markets team under co-editors Aaron Kuriloff and Lauren Pollock. While you may start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our New York office.

You will:

  • Report and write regularly throughout the market day
  • Build expertise in one or more markets subjects
  • Explore digital-first formats–live charts, audience Q&A, short video

You have:

  • Enthusiasm for and knowledge of financial markets
  • Demonstrated ability to think and write quickly
  • At least two years of journalism experience in financial markets or a related field (we will also consider relevant industry experience)
  • Digital skills – programming languages, data expertise, data visualization, social media – are a plus

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and clips or other samples of published work.
