Facebook is at the forefront of many of the biggest challenges facing the tech industry and its relationship with society. This job requires an ability to write revealing stories about the company, its leaders and staff as they contend with crucial tests around privacy, perceived bias and misinformation–while also trying to maintain Facebook’s dominant position in the market.
The beat is intensely competitive, and this reporter will be asked to deliver scoops and deeply-reported enterprise stories that shape how the world understands Facebook. This person would have primary responsibility for core corporate coverage, from leadership to strategy to successes and stumbles. At the same time, this reporter will need to grasp the way users share and consume information on Facebook’s various platforms as well as its relationship to issues from geopolitics to artificial intelligence to pop culture.
Given the breadth and importance of the story, multiple reporters at the Journal are involved in coverage of social media. This job will be a central part of a team of reporters in San Francisco that will collaborate closely on covering Facebook’s issues with government, content and cybersecurity — and with other colleagues around the world who are looking at Facebook’s influence across industries and borders.
