The beat will include areas of intense national rivalry including, for example, dominance of 5G and other technologies. A key understanding of the U.S. and Chinese technology industry is a must, as is an ability to write broadly about the global technological and economic rivalry between China and the U.S., and how that plays out in Europe.
The European Business Reporter will seek to illuminate the impact of geopolitical and macroeconomic forces through coverage of companies and industries. We are looking for a seasoned Reporter with a proven track record of breaking news and writing deeply reported features.
We are also looking for someone who will dominate the beat with scoops and enterprise, work well with colleagues world-wide and embrace various forms of storytelling. Experience writing about Chinese businesses, global technology trends and the telecommunications industry is required.
Primary responsibilities include:
Identifying companies, business people, industries or trends in Europe that will illuminate the geopolitical and economic rivalries taking shape in the post-pandemic world. Writing stories for all sections of WSJ.com and the print edition and writing the full spectrum of Journal story types, including the Journal “leader,” the iconic, long-form, deeply reported story that runs each morning on the front page; business features and scoops; and the WSJ, the humorous feature that also appears each day on the front page.

— A conversational command of Mandarin is a plus, but not required.
Experience
— At least 10 years’ experience at a top-tier global business news organization.
— Experience writing about U.S., Chinese and European businesses.
