WMNF-Tampa seeks an assistant director of news & public affairs

WMNF is a fiercely independent, non-commercial, community radio station and mission-driven media organization (https://www.wmnf.org/about-wmnf/) covering the greater Tampa Bay area in Florida. Providing impact above our wattage weight, WMNF ranks in the top 20 of the 17th largest media market in the USA and rising. We cover a wide range of musical genres and broad perspectives of news and public affairs. We are a community station; therefore, local volunteers produce almost all programming. We use some NPR and Pacifica programming.

As the 2024 election approaches, our growing newsroom in this critical state, is seeking an Assistant Director of News and Public Affairs. This person will have a range of roles at WMNF including:

  • Staying on top of all Florida news so that they may best serve asassignment editor and copy editor supervising a team of staff, volunteerand intern reporters
  • On-air news anchor/host of news headlines
  • Exemplar general assignment radio news reporter and producer

Minimum experience requirements include 3-5 years of journalism in any medium with high ethical and fairness standards, works well on a team, comfortable with a variety of technologies, thorough understanding of the news cycle. Experience working with other non-profits, even as a volunteer, is helpful but not required.

Salary range is in line with CPB norms for other radio stations of our size and towards the top of the scale for other community stations, at $42,000 – 57,000 annual salary.
