Wired seeks an associate reviews editor

Wired is seeking an Associate Reviews Editor to support the production of consumer tech reviews, guides, deals coverage, how-tos, personal essays, and videos. Our team is driven to help readers find the best products and make the most of them. We thoroughly test that gear by using it in our daily lives.

Familiarity with the editing process is required, as is a professional passion for testing products yourself and enough space to manage the regular inflow and outflow of that gear. Experience (and interest in) reviewing some of the following categories of gear is ideal: laptops, PCs, PC peripherals, home office gear, bed-in-a-box mattresses, sleep tech, gaming, PC gaming, home and kitchen, parenting, security (software, privacy, locks/cameras), and sustainability.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit reviews, buying guides, gift guides, news/feature articles, and deals coverage each day

  • Help manage short-term and long-term content calendars, and help track the performance of content over time (story traffic and commerce revenue data)

  • Aid with research, story assignments, formatting, and image sourcing

  • Write and/or update 1 – 2 pieces of 900+ word content per week: a mix of full-length reviews, buying guides, gift guides, how-tos, deals coverage, videos, commerce projects, and news/feature articles

  • Obtain and test several types of products simultaneously in your daily life and manage the shipping of products to and from your home

  • Become the lead reviewer for multiple product categories, and collaborate with other members of the team

  • Coordinate closely with the Commerce and Audience Development teams to understand analytics data

  • Manage your time efficiently, self-motivate, and proactively communicate

  • Work with our multimedia producer to spot video opportunities and create video content

  • Follow SEO and affiliate linking best practices, and be comfortable optimizing for commerce revenue while putting reader needs first

This is a full-time telecommute position; remote workers residing in the United States are encouraged. It is also an interdepartmental role. You would be a member of WIRED’s Editorial Reviews team and also a member of Conde Nast’s Commerce department.

To Be Considered, You Must Include:

  • A cover letter explaining your background, familiarity with WIRED, what types of product or tech coverage you have done in the past, and why you’ll excel in this role

  • A résumé

  • 2+ samples of your work (URLs and/or attachments, please include links to any relevant photo or video samples)

  • 3 references
