Wichita Biz Journal seeks a reporter

The Wichita Business Journal is searching for a reporter who can build a list of strong sources, break news, write sophisticated and impactful cover stories and own their beats. Candidates should be able to mine data for stories, use social media as a reporting tool and make connections with the Wichita business community. This person will relish the opportunity to scoop the competition daily, online and in print. The Wichita Business Journal is an award-winning, highly respected source of business news in Wichita and south-central Kansas.

Duties
• Build and maintain a source database.
• Publish three scoops per day.
• Produce at least one front-page centerpiece per month.
• Write additional stories for print, including special reports and special publications.
• Work well in a collaborative, award-winning team environment.

Skills
• Report and write at a high level on deadline.
• Identify issues and topics that drive the business discussion in Wichita.
• Be competitive, analytical and investigative.
• Audio/video production experience a plus.
• Possess a strong work ethic.
• Faithfully adhere to journalism ethics.

Experience
1-3 years of full-time professional journalism experience preferred.
Experience with using social media to source and promote content.

Education
Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
