The Washington Post is looking for a reporter to cover Amazon, Microsoft and the rising profile of Seattle as a technology center.
At the center of this beat will be Amazon, which is pushing into almost every part of society. We want a reporter who can bring us deep inside Amazon to help readers understand the strategy of a company that has become America’s second-largest employer. We also want this reporter to shed light on the company’s formidable position in cloud computing – which has implications for companies, consumers and policymakers. Amazon’s ambitions in consumer tech and entertainment, and potential tensions with government are all ripe for exploration.
This reporter will also closely follow Microsoft, which has made a remarkable comeback from years of regulatory problems to become a leader in cloud computing and artificial intelligence. And this reporter would unpack how the immense wealth generated by these companies is changing Seattle and its region.
The ideal candidate for this job will be able to break news frequently and produce compelling enterprise that delves into the workings of these tech giants. As our sole reporter in Seattle, this person must be a self-starter, communicative, and open to adventure.
This reporter will be part of a significant expansion of our technology team, which will include the hiring of reporters, editors and video journalists in San Francisco, Seattle and our Washington newsroom.
