Washington Post seeks economics reporter

The Washington Post is looking for an economics correspondent to cover a period of profound change in America and the world.

The beginning of the Trump administration, combined with Republican control of Congress, opens the door to an era of vast policymaking. At the top of the agenda will be taxes, trade, domestic spending, the safety net, industrial policy, regulation and immigration. Each of these issues has broad implications for workers and companies, as well as the national and international economy. Through real-time analysis and deeply reported enterprise, we expect this writer to become a high-profile, must-read voice shaping our readers’ understanding of policy debates and their consequences.

We also hope this writer will find the time to deepen the public’s knowledge of important economic developments around the country and the globe. In an era of rising populist sentiment, challenges to globalization, and profound concern about economic inequality and the future of work, we believe thoughtful, timely explanatory journalism will play a vital role in helping readers figure out what matters.

This writer will be a key member of The Post’s economics and policy team, which is driven by a high-energy digital metabolism, a love of both data and narrative and an ambition to produce the day’s, the week’s and the year’s best work in our subject areas. We hope interested writers will share our enthusiasm for economics and policy news.

Those interested should contact David Cho (david.cho@washpost.com), Zachary Goldfarb (zachary.goldfarb@washpost.com) or Tracy Grant (tracy.grant@washpost.com) by Jan. 6.
