Washington Post seeks an innovations reporter

The Washington Post is seeking a reporter for its Innovations vertical who can write about the ways new technologies shape society.

This person will tackle a wide-ranging beat that covers creators and the process of invention, as well as how innovations can disrupt fields as varied as sports, genetics, finance, architecture and entertainment. Stories will examine far-into-the-future technologies as well as devices and digital innovations that are having an impact today. And they will look at ideas, policies and approaches that promise to improve or change how government, businesses and other aspects of society work.

The job requires a curious mind that sees story ideas everywhere and a comfort level with multi-tasking. While developing in-depth enterprise, this person should be prepared to write two stories a week for the Post’s Innovations vertical, embracing a variety of storytelling techniques, including profiles, Q&As, quick features and posts off the news. Being well-sourced among cutting-edge thinkers and centers of innovation would be a plus.

The position is based in our Washington newsroom and is not eligible for remote work.

Interested candidates should send a resume, cover letter and three clips (as pdfs) to David Cho David.Cho@washpost.com, Zachary Goldfarb Zachary.Goldfarb@washpost.com, Christina Passariello Christina.Passariello@washpost.com or Tracy Grant Tracy.Grant@washpost.com by Jan. 10.
