About Our Team The Washington Post is powered by the passion and talent of our people. It takes all of us to reinvent news. Beyond our award-winning Newsroom and Opinions teams, we work across many departments, including Brand & Events, Communications, Customer Care, Engineering & Product, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Marketing & Advertising, Print Operations, and Sales.
Why This Role Matters The Washington Post is seeking an aggressive, perceptive and creative reporter to cover the defining developments in the U.S. economy — delivering revelatory reporting and sharp analysis about how shifts in labor, business and Washington policy shape the lives of Americans.
This reporter will help readers make sense of a fast-changing economic landscape, from tariffs, inflation and wages to corporate strategy, financial markets and the intersection of politics and economic power. We are looking for a journalist who can move fluidly between breaking news, ambitious enterprise and explanatory journalism — someone who can spot trends early, interrogate data deeply and surface the human consequences behind the numbers.
The ideal candidate is an inquisitive thinker and voracious consumer of data who is equally comfortable cultivating sources, parsing economic research and telling intimate, character-driven stories. They should be energized by collaboration, working with graphics reporters, data journalists and visuals editors to produce coverage that is authoritative, accessible and visually compelling.
This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.
