The Washington Post is looking for a reporter to cover robotics, automation and the future of transportation.
This reporter will cover how some of the world’s biggest technology companies are working to invent the future. This reporter will explore how automation and robotics are changing factories, hospitals, offices and retail establishments, with profound consequences for employment. The reporter will also take part in covering how advances in this technology are changing how we get around. Companies such as Tesla, Uber and Lyft will be among those covered aggressively on this beat.
While we expect this reporter to highlight the potential of these technological transformations, we also are looking for enterprise and accountability stories that fully probe risks and downsides. When might safety be at risk? What kinds of workers will be displaced by these innovations?
Successful candidates for this job should be prepared to break news, write explanatory stories about innovations, and get deep inside companies to reveal the biggest challenges they face.
This reporter will be part of a significant expansion of our technology team, which will include the hiring of reporters, editors and video journalists in San Francisco, Seattle and our Washington newsroom.
