The Washington Post is looking for an experienced editor to help lead business news coverage from Thursday through Sunday, responding to breaking news across such critical coverage areas as technology, economic policy, financial markets and general business.
This is a full-time, four-day-a-week position that requires strong news judgment, versatility and a proven record of collaboration. The ideal candidate will have a sense of urgency when news breaks, the capacity to mobilize our large staff in response to major stories, and the ability to edit sharp, comprehensive stories and explainers on deadline. We are looking for someone who can scan the horizon each day, spot trends and patterns in business news, and seize opportunities to tell stories of consequence to our readers.
On Thursdays and Fridays, this person will run our breaking news and general assignment team from the morning to the early afternoon, working closely with the Business section’s general assignment and breaking news editor. On Saturdays and Sundays, this person will be the main voice for the Business Desk at newsroom meetings.
This position, which is part of a major expansion of The Post’s editing ranks, is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
