Washington Post biz desk seeks assignment editor

The Washington Post’s Economy and Business section is looking for an editor to help oversee our economics and policy team, which includes Wonkblog– one of The Post’s most popular brands.

This person will work closely with policy editor Zach Goldfarb to build a big and influential audience for smart, fast, memorable and surprising journalism. An important part of the job is helping set the agenda every day for Wonkblog in areas of economics, business, policy and data.

The position will involve editing short-form and long-form; essays and narratives; punchy analysis; data and visual stories; and more. We need someone who can come up with compelling angles and equally compelling ways to present complicated subjects to our readers. If news is breaking or if the opportunity presents itself, the ideal candidate would be able to step in and write from time to time.

Building and growing our readership is a critical part of the job, so understanding the importance of – or having an eagerness to learn about – the role of analytics, video, social and content distribution is important. It’s not necessary to be an expert in economics or business, but interest in those subjects, a hunger to learn more and a comfort level with numbers and data are crucial.

Anyone interested should contact Greg Schneider (gregory.schneider@washpost.com), David Cho (david.cho@washpost.com) or Tracy Grant (tracy.grant@washpost.com).
