What exactly does a senior editor at WBJ do? So glad you asked. This is a new position created to find a talented person to generate innovative story ideas, write compelling and impactful cover stories on local business and edit copy for, you know, the usual things: clarity, accuracy and the like.
We want a seasoned journalist who understands the Washington business community inside and out. You’ve got to know the movers and shakers and be able to identify the up and comers.
You must write with a strong voice and not be afraid to take a point of view in a story and back it up with solid reporting. We anchor our print edition around a weekly cover story, and the senior editor will be responsible for producing one in-depth cover story a month.
This position is not expected to produce digital copy on a daily basis, but the senior editor will file digital posts when he or she uncovers news in the normal course of reporting longer pieces. As they saying goes, you produce great content and we’ll figure out what to do with it.
The senior editor will serve as a member of the editing team, helping us set direction for the news organization. He or she will serve as a backup digital editor when necessary. It’s an ideal job for an editor who loves to write and a reporter who loves to edit.
At least 10 years experience is required. A bachelor’s degree is always nice, too, but we’re more concerned with a proven track record.
