Wall Street Journal seeks journalist to cover southern Europe

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an enterprising, energetic and versatile journalist to cover Europe’s southern countries, including Italy, Spain, Greece and Portugal.(https://dowjones.jobs/rome-ita/southern-europe-reporter/48CA55A798CF4E90A1843CA4F9E4953F/job/)

Southern Europe is one of the most culturally rich but economically troubled parts of the developed world. Its struggles to cope with globalization and the scars of financial crises have made it a crucible of the contest between Europe’s political establishment and populist insurgents.

Italy, the region’s biggest economy, poses the biggest test for the long-term viability of the euro.

The region is on the front line of Europe’s challenge of rising immigration from poor and war-torn parts of Africa and the Middle East.

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a skilled writer who can rove across the region, identifying and delivering original stories on politics, economics, business and society, from news scoops to in-depth enterprise work. The job also requires the ability to parachute into the scenes of major news stories around southern Europe and produce smart coverage with a broad analytical perspective.

The ideal candidate would be a creative and ambitious reporter, and a team player who works well with the Journal’s correspondents based in Rome and Milan, as well as with other bureaus in the region. Italian or Spanish language skills are an advantage.
