Wall Street Journal seeks a reporter to cover online shopping

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a reporter to expand its coverage of online shopping, a fierce and fast-growing market. This is a corporate beat focusing on the newest entrants — as well as the shoppers behind them.

The ideal candidate will work closely with the Journal’s retail/ecommerce reporters in New York and San Francisco to mine trends and issues for stories. The reporter will also help with breaking news and retail earnings coverage.

The coverage includes startups like StitchFix, Rent the Runway and the RealReal, that are going public as alternatives to traditional apparel chains, as well as the ups and downs of digital brands such as Allbirds, Everlane and Summersalt.

The beat also includes the thriving secondhand marketplace and shopping apps like DePop, Wish, ThredUp and Poshmark, where people are spending their money or reselling their goods, and efforts by social media services like Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook to capture shopping dollars.

This person must plug in to changing consumer habits and online shifts to break news and also think broadly to deliver ambitious stories. The reporter must be a team player and be able to think creatively about the best ways to tell our stories.

The job is located in New York.
