The Wall Street Journal has announced three additional internships for aspiring journalists.
The Journal’s internship program is an opportunity for college juniors, seniors and graduate students to be fully immersed in the Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom, working with some of the best journalists in the world.
The 10-week internship program offers hands-on work experience, one-on-one mentorship and tailored training sessions. Interns are treated like full-time staff members and are encouraged to pitch their own stories and projects. The summer 2019 interns reported front-page news, created interactive graphics, edited photo projects, wrote colourful features, produced videos, curated and published our journalism across platforms, and much more.
The Journal strives to be a welcoming, diverse newsroom. You don’t need to be an expert in business or finance to apply, but you do need to be curious and eager to learn. The program has a storied history as a pipeline to a full-time job at the Journal, whether immediately or down the road.
Here are the three latest internship openings:
Summer 2020 video internship in Europe: Based in London, primary duties will include supporting the production of editorially sound and visually compelling videos, as well as publishing and promotion of videos both on the Journal’s platforms and off-platform. Candidates should have a strong interest in international news, as well as business and financial news. Basic video shooting and editing skills, as well as an understanding of video formats and delivery methods, are necessary.
Fluency in English and at least one additional European language is strongly preferred.
Summer 2020 reporting internship in Europe: The job is based in London although there may be an opportunity for a posting in one of the Journal’s European bureaus, such as Paris, Rome, Berlin or Brussels. Fluency in English and at least one additional European language is strongly preferred.
Summer 2020 podcast internship in New York: The audio intern’s primary duties will include supporting the production of editorially sound and compelling audio for WSJ’s podcasts, as well as publishing and promotion of shows both on the WSJ platform and off-platform. Candidates should have a strong interest in domestic and international news, as well as business and financial news.
Applicants should have strong script-writing skills with an emphasis on writing for the ear, comfort researching and procuring archival video and basic understanding of podcast formats and delivery methods.
