Waging Nonviolence is looking for a breaking news writer

June 1, 2022

Posted by Margarita Sanabria

Waging Nonviolence is hiring a breaking news writer to produce two short articles per week about the latest developments relating to social movements and activism.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Since our founding in 2009, Waging Nonviolence has become the leading source for news, analysis and original reporting on social movements around the world. We cover a range of social, economic and environmental justice issues — highlighting the strategies and tactics movements use to generate social change. We have been called “an indispensable platform for exploring creative and strategic resistance” by journalist Naomi Klein, and “the essential journalistic resource on civil resistance” by Harvard political scientist Erica Chenoweth.

Waging Nonviolence is committed to diversity and is especially interested in hiring members of underrepresented communities, including women, people of color, LGBTQ people, and people with disabilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The writer will work with our small editorial team to identify the key stories of the week, drawing from a mix of current events, trending topics/discussions, pop culture and overlooked events of significance. Each of the two stories produced by the writer will be in the 500-800-word range and delivered within 5 hours of assignment, along with a suggested headline, dek and lead image. Stories should accurately summarize the key information to date, while including original reporting and/or analysis where possible.
