Verywell Family is looking for writers to cover a variety of topics.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Verywell Family’s mission is to support parents through all the stages of pregnancy and parenthood. It is dedicated to empowering them with answers to most pressing questions when it comes to fertility and planning for pregnancy, caring for a newborn, and navigating the complex stages of parenting.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We have a number of assignments coming up around Black parenting & are looking to add more Black writers. You do not need to be a parent, though some articles will only go to parents. We have multiple assignments per month so this could be a recurring gig. You can also pitch us.
I would love to get some non-binary and gender nonconforming voices on the site. Again, you don’t have to be a parent, but if you are that’s a plus. I have several assignments open in this space and am open to pitches as well.
Fertility writers! I am looking for someone with a strong understanding of fertility-related topics who isn’t afraid to dive into the science of it all. I will want to see writing samples. I’m open to folks who aren’t traditional writers/journos but have a background in academia.
Health news writers. Not gonna lie, you’ll likely get a lot of covid assignments—at least to start. The ideal person here is someone who is comfortable reading studies and reporting in layperson terms. I will want to see clips/samples. News stories tend to be around 800 words.
I’m also looking for writers who are comfortable covering legal topics in the parenting space such child custody arrangements, second parent adoption, court-ordered visitation, etc.
