Variety is seeking a AI Reporter to cover artificial intelligence.
The ideal candidate is a skilled and dynamic writer and reporter with an ability to cultivate sources and break news. They should have an interest in chronicling how AI intersects with the media and entertainment business, as well as how it is reshaping our world. The role requires someone who can write on tight deadlines for the web, as well as a person who can write in-depth features and land high-impact interviews with key figures in the AI space. This position can be located in either our Los Angeles or New York City office.
What You’ll Do:
- Write timely and thought-provoking articles, including breaking news stories, features and interviews for our website and magazine.
- Break exclusive stories and offer fresh perspectives on the evolving landscape of AI, as well as how the technology is changing how movies, music and shows are produced.
- Develop and maintain an extensive network of sources, including insiders, executives, developers and thought leaders.
- Moderate panels and appear on television and radio as an expert on AI.
- Collaborate with Variety’s editorial team on attention-getting stories, while working closely with our social media and digital team to ensure that your articles are promoted across platforms.
- Cover and appear at industry events around the world.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience at a print or digital media outlet, preferably with an emphasis on technology and/or entertainment.
- Strong writing and headline skills.
- An ability to engage with a digital audience.
- Curiosity about various forms of storytelling.
- Proven ability to break news.
- High-level organizational skills and a willingness to juggle multiple assignments at once.
As Variety values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and inclusive culture.
A good faith estimate of the salary range is $115k – $130k upon hire. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role.
