USA Today is looking for an experienced personal finance and markets reporter who can chronicle how Americans spend, save and lose money — using a variety of storytelling forms, including feature writing, explainers, listicles and off-platform format like Twitters Spaces.
The reporter will be responsible for staying abreast of the shifting attitudes and behaviors toward money, and for writing enterprise stories that stay ahead of the competition and reflect America’s diversity. Beat responsibilities also include writing explainers on seasonal personal finance topics like college aid, taxes and end-of-year financial planning. And when financial markets go through key inflection points, we need a reporter who can write a combination of daily stories and explainers on why the market is booming or crashing.
Some of the traits we’re looking for include:
Demonstrated record of personal finance enterprise writing.
Conversant in personal finance terms and concepts, including consumer debt and retirement savings plans.
Experience covering financial markets, including stock, bonds and cryptocurrencies.
Able to juggle breaking news, longer-term enterprise and media appearances.
Comfort with SEO and social media tools and techniques.
Experience or willingness to do media appearances.
