US News seeks personal finance editor

The Money section at U.S. News & World Report (www.usnews.com/money) is seeking a personal finance editor, a position that includes extensive reporting, writing and editing.

The beat covers a wide range of personal finance topics (money.usnews.com/money/personal-finance), including saving money, paying off debt, banking and credit, family finances, taxes and avoiding identity theft. The editor is also charged with managing the My Money blog, which involves editing and coordinating outside contributors and using our CMS to publish posts.

Building readership and pursuing new and enterprising ways to cover the landscape of personal finance are also integral parts of this position, which is located in Washington, D.C.

Requirements:

  • Excellent reporting and research skills
  • Knowledge of personal finance concepts, including taxes, real estate, investing and retirement
  • Proven editing skills, ideally in an online journalism environment, with 5+ years of experience
  • Ability to multitask and work on deadlines in a fast-paced, journalism environment
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Interest in U.S. News’s rankings projects
  • Strong understanding of SEO and experience with online analytics reporting
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with freelancers
  • Familiarity with content management systems
  • Savvy with social media, including Twitter and Facebook
  • College degree or equivalent
