Upstream seeks oil and gas reporter in Houston

Upstream, the international oil and gas weekly newspaper, is seeking an energetic, focused journalist to join its North American bureau as a full-time reporter located in Houston, Texas.

The job will require the successful applicant to acquire and analyze information on oil & gas companies and their primary contractors, and generate accurate and insightful news copy for both web and print publication. Candidates should be able to work independently to produce consistent, clean news copy under tight deadlines. Regional and international travel is possible.

Candidates should possess a degree in journalism and/or equivalent reporting experience.

Knowledge of the oil & gas industry is preferable, but not required, as is proficiency in a second language and experience in social media and multi-media reporting. Upstream offers competitive wages and benefits programs and a flexible international work environment.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
