Undercurrent News, a subscription-driven news service focused on the global seafood sector, seeks an experienced editor to lead its Americas reporting team.
The Americas editor manages a team of three reporters in the US and Canada, in addition to helping direct the coverage of Latin America from two Spanish-speaking journalists based in Europe.
Our UK-based business, founded and run by journalists, generates a large portion of its readership in the Americas, so the position is a vital one. The role is home-based and can be done in virtually any city or state across North America, allowing for lots of geographic mobility.
Our editorial focus is on seafood prices, supply, trade, policy, and mergers and acquisitions. So, the editor will be directing the coverage of these topics from the team, in addition to editing their work.
Every morning, we send an Americas newsletter, which the editor will oversee. The newsletter includes original material from the team and relevant copy from other sources. The editor will be expected to edit the team’s copy, as well as press releases and news from other sources.
Then, the Americas editor will be directing the news agenda from the team for the next day, in addition to producing original stories of their own. The Americas editor will also be responsible for overseeing breaking news stories in the time zone.
The Americas editor will also work closely with the company’s editorial director and European editor on global coverage.
In addition, the editor will lead the production of our annual World’s 100 Largest Seafood Companies report, in both digital and pdf form.
Ideally, the candidate will have at least two years of editing experience at a business-to-business publication. A background in the seafood sector would be desirable but is not a must. We are looking for passion and dedication, and we can train you in the industry.
There will be some North American and global travel required in the role.
Please send a resume, a brief cover letter and two of your best clips to apply@undercurrentnews.com. The cover letter should succinctly outline what you would bring to the role.
