UNC journalism school seeks biz journalism professor

The Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an experienced professional in business journalism to join the faculty in Fall 2020.

The School offers one of the few business journalism programs in the country and is known for providing strong foundations in writing, conceptual thinking and ethical practices. The successful candidate will contribute to the school’s continued excellence in journalism with a particular focus on business journalism. Candidates will be proficient in business journalism and multiple reporting techniques, such as data gathering and analysis, records requests, business document navigation and the uses of new technologies.

The selected candidate will teach five semester-long courses per academic year (if hired on tenure track) or six semester-long courses per year (if hired on a fixed-term appointment). During the interview process, the specifics of each appointment will be discussed.

This person will administer the school’s business journalism certificate program, will be expected to teach current courses and will expand our course offerings in business journalism. The selected candidate also is expected to engage with business journalism leaders as well as community partners to connect students with professional experiences that enhance their education and career preparation. Fostering the trajectory of students is a key component of this position, particularly through advising and mentoring. The person in this position will serve on or lead master’s student thesis committees and serve on other school committees. An interest or experience in online instruction is a plus. Additional responsibilities will include service to the school and the university.
