Tribune Publishing seeks a copy editor, part-time

The main responsibilities may include but are not limited to sourcing and editing articles and photos for publication in Tribune’s print newspapers, writing print headlines, and proofing newspaper pages to be shared across all Tribune newspapers.

What you will do:

  • Be fast and accurate; always strive to provide readers with what we know, when we know it. Be transparent about sources of information
  • Edit stories for length with an eye toward accuracy and readability; check for grammar, punctuation and clarity while proofreading others’ work
  • Write easy-to-read, informative, and creative headlines on tight deadlines
  • Source stories and photos from the wires, including breaking news, profiles, opinion columns and features
  • Meet production deadlines and maintain ideal page flow under minimal to moderate supervision
  • Employ independent news judgment

What you will bring:

  • Ability to foster excellent communication with peers, supervisor(s), and local newsrooms
  • Solid grasp of the rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Write and edit accurately, with clarity, and without bias
  • Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to multi-task and perform in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays during irregular hours
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years editing experience at a news publication
  • Knowledge and acceptance of Tribune’s mission and strategy
