Tribune Content Agency seeks a copy editor

A Copy Editor plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of written content. If you feel like what is explained below best aligns with your experience, come work with us!

What you will do:

  • The editor’s principal duties are to deliver on news service, features, services and other products
  • Prepares articles, columns, images, graphics, illustrations and other products for publication and syndication across products
  • Devises news budgets and daily priorities
  • Edits and curates content
  • Oversees specialty products content and custom content products
  • Ensures accuracy and quality of all content by delivering on standards and processes
  • Being transparent about sources of information
  • Editing articles and graphics for grammar, punctuation, clarity and accuracy; proof reading others’ work; and writing headlines and captions
  • Working with contributors and sources to clarify information to be published
  • Designing or editing pages, packages and graphics for syndication or distribution
  • Using newsroom’s computer production system and outside software such as InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Pulling photos from wires and other sources; cropping and auto-toning photos for publication
  • Meeting production deadlines and maintaining ideal content flow under minimal to moderate supervision
  • Executing daily editing and production of all products and services
  • Ensuring accuracy and quality of all content by delivering on standards and processes
  • Working with external content creators (writers, artists, publications, websites, etc.)
  • Managing as necessary freelancers and free-lance content for specialty products and custom content initiatives
  • Attend meetings with peers, supervisor(s), department and newsroom as necessary participating in and fostering communication
  • Working on special projects as assigned

What you will bring:

  • Ability to foster excellent communication with peers, supervisor(s), department and various newsrooms
  • Professional-level grasp of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation
  • Ability to write accurately, with clarity, without bias
  • Knowledge of libel laws and adherence to the codes of ethics
  • Maintaining up-to-date skills on various print platforms and keeping abreast of current events and newsmakers in news, sports and pop culture
  • Solid editorial background, strong word skills, people skills, and work ethic
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
  • A minimum of five years editing and design experience at a daily news publication or web site; excellent command of verbal and written English
  • Must be able and willing to work irregular hours and holidays as necessary, and must be familiar with computers and software, including Internet software
