theSkimm seeks senior finance editor

theSkimm is hiring an experienced editor to contribute to its mission of helping millennial women make smarter money decisions. The senior finance editor will oversee day-to-day operations of the Skimm Money team and report to the deputy managing editor, Finance.

DUTIES:

  • Translate financial jargon and break down complex financial topics using theSkimm’s unique voice and editorial approach
  • Brainstorm and approve a consistent output of timely and evergreen financial web content
  • Run pitch meeting and edit the Skimm Money weekly newsletter
  • Work with the news, video, audio, and social teams to create the right financial content for each Skimm platform
  • Represent Skimm Money and contribute ideas and content for cross-team initiatives, including tentpole campaigns and events
  • Look for new ways to deliver engaging financial content for millennial women

What’s needed?

  • 7+ years of experience in financial writing and editing; 3+ as an editor
  • Solid understanding of financial news, markets, econ, and personal finance topics
  • Strong journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards
  • Ability to create actionable content with a specific target audience in mind
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work autonomously
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to anticipate and respond quickly to change
  • Passionate about theSkimm’s mission and ability to write in theSkimm’s voice

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience managing a team
  • Experience with financial content targeting millennial women
  • Experience working on newsletters
