The Yakima Herald Republic seeks a special publications editor

The Yakima Herald-Republic and the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin are part of The Seattle Times Co., and we’ve created a new position — special publications editor/affiliate newspapers.

Based in Yakima, the special publications editor is the driving force behind our specialty websites and print magazines. You’ll collaborate with journalists and contributors from the inception of stories and projects to make sure 1) they’re fully developed for audiences in Yakima and Walla Walla, 2) they’re packaged effectively on yakimaherald.com and union-bulletin.com;  and 3) that our East of the Cascades website is consistently fresh and engaging. You will also design and paginate our special publications.

Essentially, here’s the job:

  • Coordinate with contributors and affiliate journalists to develop effective content for special publications. Bring stories and ideas to the table for development.
  • Schedule and edit content for digital and print publication.
  • Curate East of the Cascades website, making use of analytics to inform decisions.
  • Plan, edit, design and paginate print specialty publications for the Yakima Herald-Republic and Walla Walla Union-Bulletin.
  • Use social media, email to promote special publications content, engage audiences.

Position requirements:

  • A keen grasp of digital journalism.
  • Exceptional print design skills.
  • Strong news judgment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Experience: At least three years of newsroom experience.
