January 25, 2021

The Washington Post’s general assignment news desk is seeking an editor/reporter who can prioritize speed and accuracy while toggling between breaking news and artful storytelling.

The ideal candidate should have experience writing and editing on deadline for a major publication, as well as working with reporters who have a variety of skill sets. He or she would focus on writing and reporting, but should be comfortable editing their colleagues’ work for a week at a time, or in a pinch on short notice.

The general assignment desk covers breaking news stories in collaboration with Politics, the America desk, Health, Business, Foreign and beyond. It is also a newsroom leader in delivering live updates.

Interested candidates should upload a cover letter, résumé and three clips (as PDFs) to the jobs portal by Feb. 6.

All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to General Assignment Editor Keith McMillan, Live News Editor Josh du Lac, Senior Director of Audience Ryan Kellett, and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.

NOTE:

Please list all professional experience and explain any gaps in employment history. All of your application materials, which may include PDF files of work samples and/or links to audio, video, photography or graphics, must be uploaded to the field labeled Resume/Cover Letter/Work Samples to be considered for the position.
