The Washington Post is seeking an innovative, insightful and dynamic journalist to take on a new leadership position as senior editor for global audience strategy.
The successful candidate will possess a relentless drive to bring impactful journalism to new audiences. They will need to accelerate experimental thinking to develop strategies that place the needs of our global English-speaking audience at the center of our journalism.
We are looking for someone confident in working across all audience disciplines:
- reaching new readers, listeners and viewers
- with a fluent understanding of social and search
- developing relationships with potential subscribers through email and SMS
- fostering deeper engagement through daily commissioning of stories and the overall presentation of our daily report.
This person will help guide content and distribution strategies and explore opportunities for new products and expansions of coverage to serve audience needs.
The ideal candidate will be a newsroom leader who has a demonstrated ability to produce journalism that meets the needs of various audiences, with a particular focus on English speakers outside of the United States. This candidate should have experience collaborating with multiple teams to launch products aimed at developing new audiences and a clear point of view on story form, use of voice, effective visual journalism, and how to elevate strong and appealing story targets so that they are accessible to English-speaking audiences, globally.
The senior editor for international audience strategy will also be responsible for training editors and reporters on engaging global audiences and adapting our playbooks to reflect the realities of daily news flow and operations.
Strong candidates will have:
- At least eight years of newsroom experience that includes the use of audience analytics.
- Management experience is preferred
- Strong understanding of international lenses across topics — from American politics to features to climate.
This position may be based in either London or our Washington, D.C., newsroom and will report to the head of audience strategy and growth.
