The Wall Street Journal seeks an education reporter

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced, ambitious and versatile reporter to cover the nation’s K-12 schools

American educators are rethinking how and what they teach as they navigate the culture wars and the learning loss many students experienced during the pandemic. This position represents an opportunity for a talented journalist to explore the issues shaping our next generation and the workforce of the future for a growing global audience.

You will report for the education team on the U.S. News desk. You may be asked to travel the country to find stories that resonate. You should have experience working with databases and public records.

You will:

  • Break news on your beat
  • Conceptualize and deliver deeply reported education enterprise stories
  • Work with colleagues around the country and the world in a 24-hour-a-day global newsroom.

You have:

  • At least five years of experience covering a highly competitive beat, preferably including education beat reporting
  • Deadline writing skills
  • Proven ability to develop sources and write with authority on what is happening and what it means
  • A track record of tackling ambitious projects and finding original approaches to coverage.

Pay Range: $50,000 – $180,000
