The Shreveport-Bossier Advocate is seeking an experienced journalist to run our newsroom for the largest news organization in Louisiana and be a presence in the Shreveport-Bossier City community. We’re searching for someone who can coach reporters on daily and enterprise stories of all types while managing breaking news in a competitive digital media market.

The editor will lead a team of 9 journalists to launch and produce a new, daily digital news product – including a website, daily newsletters, an app and social media platforms. We’re looking for a dynamic leader who thrives in a startup environment and consistently seeks new ways to engage readers while upholding our standards of fairness and accuracy.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assign reporters stories and help them develop story ideas. Edit stories and rework them as needed
  • Establish and develop a daily digital workflow for this startup newsroom
  • Set editorial coverage strategy for the newsroom, drawing from community feedback and reader metrics
  • Analyze digital metrics, and coach reporters and editors to do the same, to help the company meet its digital goals
  • Mentor reporters and help them develop their careers
  • Lead production of a 7-day-a-week newsletter, and launch additional newsletters and other digital products to serve readers
  • Serve as the public face and lead cheerleader of The Shreveport-Bossier Advocate in the community. Help plan and stage public events with readers.

At The Advocate | The Times-Picayune, we are passionate about producing interesting and engaging journalism, and we have been aggressive about growing the organization to reach more subscribers. Come be a part of that growth by leading our expansion in Shreveport and Bossier City.
